Summer 2023 Conway Artwalk

In the photo above, I am the first photo- the artist in the green stripes.

In July and August, I participated in the Conway Artwalk in Downtown Conway, AR. I had done this several years ago and had success with my paintings.  This was the first time I had exhibited fiber arts.  It was very hot in July and I was on the sidewalk in an alley.  I did make a sale though.  August was different.  I was put into a building with other vendors but there just wasn't enough traffic.

Years ago I participated in several outdoor art festivals with my paintings.  So I am not a complete newbie when it comes to outdoor vending.  However, I felt like I was starting over.  This is because I was starting a new medium.  It was tough enough to introduce Arkansans to mixed media back when I was doing this before and here I am trying to introduce them to tapestries and wall hangings- weavings.

I talked with a few attendees about my process and a few were really interested. I had a few people take a business card.

Overall, I am happy that I participated in the summer Artwalks to gain experience about how to display and sell my new medium.  However, I am not sure that Conway, Arkansas is the right demographic for my product.  I will keep trying because fiber arts has made a comeback since COVID-19.
