Ceramic Cups: Hand-building
In case you missed what is going on here, please see my other post here.
This post is about my hand-building process for each cup. We are using a red clay body.
Cup one is beginning to take shape as a pinch pot. Don't forget, I haven't really had that much clay experience.
Here is cup one shaped up and adding a handle.
Cup two is made from two coiled pots. I'm slowly learning!
I connected them and added handles. It is upside down to keep the shape of the handles.
Here are my first puny attempts at making handles.
Cup three starts out in an oval shape.
I then cut out the lower section to install my handle.
Here is cup three with its handle installed and waiting to dry a little to finish shaping it up.
Cup four had a design change and I started with an abstracted basket shape.
I used a small loop tool to carve the lines to represent the basket pattern.
I then added rustic-looking handles to represent a basket for water.
For Cup 5 I used two pinch pots' bottoms connected and then a pinch pot foot was added.
I built this cup with coils and a pinch pot foot and used darting to give it its shape.
I attached the foot and stem to the cup.
I then built a top for the cup.
For cup six, I cut the front and back from hard slab in the shape of a Dramyin.
I added reinforced walls to the sides of cup six which are just strips of hard slab clay.
I then added details to the front of cup six.
I added a pinch pot foot to the bottom of cup six.
I thinned out the drinking rim of cup six.
