Ceramic Sculptures

The Heart as a Creature:  organic shape, contains 5 oblong shapes, hollowed out solid mass with pinch pots and coils.  This was inspired by asking myself the question, "What would my heart look like as an organic shape other than what it really is?

The Heart Has Layers:  Geometric, 5 squares, and slab.  This was inspired by my 4 sons and the love I have for them.  Their birthstone colors are represented by the colors they are stained.  Byron and Noah are purple, West is Green, and William is red.  My square is in the center and is blue for my birthstone.  I decided to stack the squares in this way to represent all of my boys' love around me and they are protecting me.

The Heart Wants What the Heart Wants:  Combination of organic and geometric.  built from hollowed-out mass and slab.  The organic shape in the center represents my heart.  These 5 triangle cups are reaching up to the sky to receive love from my 4 boys and my partner.  They serve as a funnel for love and comfort.

The Heart Breaks and the Heart Mends:  6"X6"X2", I painted it with majolica, wiped it back, and used a ceramics pencil to sketch a heart into the tile.  I used watered-down slips in red and green around the heart to add contrast between the heart and the background.  The next step is to glue it back together and tie it up with barbed wire.

(These sketches are in black and white on purpose.  I would like to play with darks and lights in these pieces with little pops of color)
